No Parent Trap: Marcus Morris denies conspiracy theory he played for Markieff

Publish date: 2024-07-24

Wizards power forward Markieff Morris was questionable for Game 2 in Boston on Tuesday after badly spraining his left ankle during Game 1 two days earlier. Not only did Morris start, he had one of his most productive games of the playoffs, finishing with 16 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Celtics’ point guard Isaiah Thomas almost always commits a free throw violation

This led to an amusing conspiracy theory that Morris and his identical twin brother, Marcus, who is also an NBA player, switched places for a night. The Ringer’s Rodger Sherman beautifully outlined the points and counterpoints of the theory, which was somewhat believable because Marcus’s Pistons aren’t in the playoffs and the brothers have matching tattoos. If NBA referees miss blatant free throw violations every game, how can they be expected to tell these two apart?

I gonna need Marcus Morris to tweet a picture of himself holding a newspaper

Are we sure that's not Marcus Morris? Can we get a halftime DNA test?

John Wall implies that whistle-swallowing officials are giving him the LeBron treatment

For The Win’s Andy Joseph, who attended Kansas with the Morris twins and covered them for the Arizona Republic when they played for the Suns, put together a handy guide for telling them apart. Joseph was convinced that Markieff and Marcus didn’t pull a switcheroo for Game 2.

Marcus, who wore his brother’s Wizards jersey to a first-round game against the Hawks, attempted to squash the conspiracy theory late Wednesday night.

I wouldn't play for another team unless I'm on that team. Smooth playing on a sprained ankle. I didn't expect anything less.

If the Wizards want some insurance against future injuries and foul trouble, they might consider acquiring Marcus during the offseason. The Morris twins have made the switch when they were teammates before. From a 2013 story in the Arizona Republic:

“We did it before in AAU ball,” Markieff said. ” … It (the jersey switch) was on the bench. It happened real quick. He had hurt his ankle but I had fouled out. I gave them a little limp back in, like I was hurt and kept playing.”
